AI Hardware

Artificial intelligence is reshaping computing, from hyperscale data centers to intelligent edge devices. Adeia contributes to the evolution of AI across models, systems, and infrastructure – developed as an integrated hardware-software stack – helping to build solutions to some of the most formidable challenges in the field.

AI systems operate under very different conditions depending on where they are deployed. In data centers, where both training and inference workloads take place, the challenge is maximizing performance. As power densities in advanced processors rapidly increase, however, thermal management has become a critical barrier to continued scaling. Adeia addresses this with innovations such as direct-to-chip liquid cooling integrated into advanced semiconductor packaging, enabling significantly higher compute densities with improved energy efficiency.

At the edge, the challenge is to optimize performance given size, weight and power (SWaP) constraints that vary by application, from autonomous systems to consumer devices. Here, the focus shifts to delivering efficient performance in highly constrained environments by optimizing AI models, IC architectures and system design.

Adeia researchers have made vital contributions to large language models (LLMs) and the transformer architecture that LLMs are built on today. This technology is approaching its limits however, and Adeia will help move the industry beyond LLMs and transformers, investigating new, more efficient architectures with multimodality and real-world reasoning.
